About

The home at 30 W Mesa is a one-story dwelling with masonry walls on a small triangular lot of 5,075 square feet, built into the stone walls supporting 20 W Mesa and 724 N Cascade Avenue on the east. It has a footprint of 4,450 square feet with a curb cut and parking space toward the south corner.

Lewis and Martha Tilley purchased the vacant lot and hired the fledgling architect firm of Ingraham & Ingraham, nearby neighbors at the time, to design a structure.

The Tilley house is a classic display of Modern architecture with its horizontal lines, the interconnection between exterior and interior spaces, and use of materials.

The family – nor anyone else to my knowledge – has ever referred to the property as “W” 30 Mesa Road. The architect, Gordon Ingraham, was a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, which heavily influenced the design. It was owner built because Lew and Martha Tilley could not afford a contractor.
