About
The home at 30 W Mesa is a one-story dwelling with masonry walls on a small triangular lot of 5,075 square feet, built into the stone walls supporting 20 W Mesa and 724 N Cascade Avenue on the east. It has a footprint of 4,450 square feet with a curb cut and parking space toward the south corner.
Lewis and Martha Tilley purchased the vacant lot and hired the fledgling architect firm of Ingraham & Ingraham, nearby neighbors at the time, to design a structure.
The Tilley house is a classic display of Modern architecture with its horizontal lines, the interconnection between exterior and interior spaces, and use of materials.
Timeline
1949
Lewis and Martha Tilley completed the property’s outer structure. Gordon Ingraham was credited with the design, resulting from conversations with the Tilleys. Unwilling to pay for a contractor to build the home, the couple managed the construction, performing work where possible, and hiring specialists as needed.
1956
Martha Tilley declared the interior completed.
