Historic Uptown Updates

Board Member: Cheryl

Treasurer Update

  • We are investigating getting a cell phone number to setup a Venmo account.

Board Meeting Schedule

  • We agreed to have board meetings every other month. We will have a board meeting the second Thursday in November and January. We will have an annual meeting in February, date TBD.
  • We will still have monthly newsletters ☺.

Parkside Historic District Rezoning Application

  • We submitted an initial application to Bill Gray on June 7th, 2024, for an HP-O zone change. We integrated Bill’s feedback and submitted the final application on August 18th, 2024.
  • We requested a zone change fee waiver and City Initiation of a Historic Preservation Overlay District to include the remaining properties that did not respond to our emails and letters. The City denied all our requests.
  • There are 26 properties in the proposed Parkside Historic District.
    • 2 properties are already historically designated.
    • 14 property owners agreed to the HP-O zone change.
    • 1 property owner did not agree to the HP-O zone change.
    • 9 property owners did not respond to our initial letter.
  • The City did not allow the Historic Preservation Board to consider initiating a Parkside District zone change to include all 23 properties, so we are moving forward with the 14 properties whose owners agreed. We are hopeful the remaining 9 property owners, who did not respond to our initial letter, would choose to be added to the HP-O zone change application.
  • The City mailed postcards to all property owners within 1,000 feet.
  • Cheryl and Tim installed posters on 8/31/2024 at 7 designated locations in the Parkside District.
  • The initial Planning review of the HP-O application will be complete by September 17, 2024.

Historic Uptown Street Signs

Cheryl at the Jazz Garden with the Street Sign Prototype

Tam recommended asking the neighborhood if there are any graphic designers who would like to volunteer to work on street sign designs. Also ask the neighborhood if they would like to submit any ideas. Here is a proposed idea:

Meeting with Councilwoman Michelle Talarico

  • Dianne and Cheryl met with Michelle Talarico (our District 3 City Council representative) about Monument Valley Park creek bed cleanup between Uintah and Bijou. We also discussed the update on the Parkside District Historic Preservation Overlay. The take aways from this meeting were:
    • Michelle is arranging for a work session with City Council to talk about Monument Valley Park cleanup efforts, including Poor Richards Rubbish Roundup and Keep COS Clean, and proposing additional cleanup efforts.
    • Michelle is arranging for a work session with City Council on the Parkside District Historic Preservation Overlay.
